Initially a simple artisanal rope works founded in 1862 by Kaspar Tanner in the heart of Aargau, this Swiss company adopted the name Mammut in the 1940s to better reflect the power and strength of the climbing ropes which were still at the heart of its activity. Over the years, the company continued to develop its range of climbing equipment, forming partnerships with sportspeople and using their feedback to enhance the products still further. By the 1980s, the family firm turned international had expanded into survival gear, such as shovels, electronic receivers and probes, as well as mountain clothing and footwear.
Technologically advanced and lightweight, Mammut climbing ropes are renowned the world over for their reliability. The same expertise is applied to the company’s other climbing gear, as well as to its backpacks, avalanche safety systems, and outdoor clothing. Nowadays the company offers a wide range of mountain equipment to meet the needs of all those who need reliable, high performance products, able to stand up to the harshest conditions.
