Nike SB: Nike skateboard shoes and clothing
Launched in 2002, Nike SB is Nike's division entirely dedicated to skateboarding. Created to meet the needs of riders, the brand develops men's shoes and women's shoes, clothing and accessories that combine innovation, comfort and durability. Over the years, Nike SB has become a benchmark in the skate world thanks to collaborations with professional skaters and its iconic models, valued for both their performance and style.
Nike first entered the skate market in the late 90s. By the early 2000s, skaters began adopting Nike silhouettes for their look and comfort. In 2002, Nike officially launched its dedicated range, Nike Skateboarding, with a clear focus: to design shoes specifically for skateboarding.
Several features set a Nike SB shoe apart from a traditional Nike shoe:
Grip is one of the key criteria for a good skate shoe. Without proper traction on the board, tricks quickly become unpredictable.
Skateboarding wears out shoes quickly. Nike SB integrates several features to extend their lifespan:
Skating means jumping, landing, and repeating. The cushioning in a skate shoe plays a direct role in protecting your joints over time.
The Dunk is undoubtedly the most iconic model in the range. Originally designed for basketball in the 80s, it was reimagined for skateboarding by Nike SB in the early 2000s. Its mid-cut silhouette, endless colourways and numerous collector editions have made it one of the most sought-after sneakers on the market. It can be worn both on the board and as a lifestyle shoe, remaining one of the most versatile models in the range.
Born from the collaboration between Nike and pro skater Stefan Janoski, the Janoski has become a modern skate classic. Minimalist silhouette, low-cut, lightweight suede: it stands out for excellent boardfeel and great flexibility. It has been released in several versions over the years (Janoski Max, Slip-On, Hyperfeel), each offering a slightly different use.
The Blazer is another model reworked by Nike SB. First appearing in the 70s as a basketball shoe, it was redesigned for skateboarding with an adapted sole and more robust materials. Its high-top silhouette, simple lines and history make it a shoe appreciated both on the board and for everyday wear.
The most vintage model, the Bruin stands out with its thin rubber sole and retro look. Several versions have been released, including the Bruin Hyperfeel with an internal bootie for better fit, and the Air Max Bruin Vapor which modernises the model with an Air Max sole.
The right choice depends on your practice, preferred materials and desired support.
Nike SB is not limited to men's sneakers and women's sneakers. The brand offers a complete range of apparel designed for skateboarding and everyday street style:
A few simple steps will extend the life of your Nike SB shoes:
Nike develops collections tailored to each sport. While Nike running ranges are designed for running and Nike ACG targets outdoor and hiking enthusiasts, Nike SB is entirely dedicated to skateboarding. Compared to standard Nike models, Nike SB shoes feature specific reinforcements, a sole designed for excellent grip on the board, Zoom Air cushioning and materials selected to withstand the wear and tear of skateboarding.
Nike SB shoes generally fit like standard Nike models. However, some silhouettes (especially the Dunk) can run slightly large: if in doubt, refer to the size guide for each model on the product page or contact our experts for personalised advice.
