Candide Thovex is a legend whose influence extends far beyond competitions. In the early 2000s, this iconic skier redefined freeride and freestyle, making the Alps and La Clusaz the stage for his exploits filmed both on and off the slopes. His viral videos cemented his status as an icon. From this experience, the Candide brand was born, offering versatile skis (for groomed runs, powder, and backcountry) and technical Candide skiwear (jackets, down jackets, and pants) to accompany you on all terrains and in all conditions.
Choosing Candide Thovex skis means opting for the philosophy of an iconic athlete. Candide skis are the result of Candide's unique experience in the X Games, freestyle, and freeride. From a very young age, in La Clusaz, he was seen conquering the slopes as his favorite playground.
Candide Thovex is an iconic figure in the world of snow sports. Often nicknamed "The Frenchy," he revolutionized freestyle skiing with unprecedented style and creativity. This emblematic skier's record is impressive, including four gold medals at the Winter X Games and a victory on the Freeride World Tour.
Candide Thovex has always made it a point not to limit himself to a single discipline. He excels in freeride, freestyle, and even on groomed runs, with disconcerting ease. It is this versatility that he has infused into the design of his Candide skis.
Whether you're a park enthusiast, a powder hound, or enjoy groomed runs with friends, there's a model for you. Candide skis are designed to allow everyone to ski the way they want, without compromise.
Contrary to popular belief, Candide skis aren't just for experts. Their shape and flex are often designed to offer good forgiveness, making learning easier and allowing experienced skiers to have maximum fun.
For freestyle and freeride, responsiveness is key. The Candide ski's construction is designed to excel when conditions get challenging. Whether you're launching a big jump or carving your line through powder, you'll feel the equipment respond instantly.
These skis provide a feeling of lightness and comfort for maximum gliding pleasure, essential for linking runs and making the most of winter in the Alps.
The classic rule is to choose a size close to your own height. However, you can add a few centimeters for freeriding (better float) or subtract a little for freestyle (more maneuverability). A narrow waist (around 90 mm) provides more responsiveness on groomed runs, while a wider waist (over 100 mm) offers exceptional float in powder. These are known as Candide freeride models.
Flex refers to the ski's stiffness. A soft flex is more playful and forgiving, ideal for the park. A stiff flex will be more stable at high speeds and more efficient in challenging snow conditions; this is often found on Candide freeride models. These models benefit from robust construction, with high-quality wood cores and added reinforcements that optimize shock absorption.
The range is designed to cover different practices and includes freeride skis for deep powder, as well as freestyle skis.
Freeride skis are the widest in the range, specifically designed to ensure float in fresh snow. They are intended for skiers who venture off-piste. They feature a very distinctive profile, with a pronounced rocker to facilitate planing.
All-mountain skis for backcountry skiing represent the core of the Candide Thovex philosophy. These all-mountain skis are equally at home on hardpack and off-piste. They are recommended for primarily backcountry skiing with a touch of groomed runs.
Candide Thovex freestyle skis are designed for riders who want to have fun in the park or on the street. Lightweight and maneuverable, they facilitate rotations, switch turns, and landings, offering both forgiveness and control to confidently link tricks and jumps.
To simplify your purchase, Snowleader offers Candide skis paired with compatible bindings, with the option of having them mounted in our Snowleader workshops. This ensures that everything is optimized and ready to ski.
To complete your equipment, Candide Thovex is not to be outdone and offers technical clothing (jackets, down jackets and ski pants), perfect for skiing.
Generally, you should choose a size that is between -5 cm and +5 cm from your height. For freestyle or piste skiing, you can stay at your usual size or go slightly smaller. For freeriding, it's best to choose a slightly larger size to improve flotation in deep snow.
The main difference lies in the waist width. Freeride skis are wider (over 100 mm) and prioritize float in powder, while all-mountain skis are narrower (between 90 and 100 mm). The latter offer better grip on hard snow.
Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity of your Candide skis. We recommend frequent waxing and edge sharpening once or twice a season. Also, remember to have your bindings checked and adjusted by a professional before each winter.
