Julbo Density are sports sunglasses from Julbo, the renowned mountain optics brand from the Jura. Designed for athletes who want wide, lightweight, and clear vision without distraction from their gear, these sunglasses feature an oversized panoramic lens and an ultra-light semi-rimless frame, perfect for intense cycling, running, or mountain outings. The range includes 12 colours and several lens technologies (Spectron 3, Spectron HD 3, Reactiv photochromic, polarised lenses), so you can find the right pair for your activity and style.
The Density is one of the lightest models from the brand. Its minimalist construction maximises your field of vision while still providing real eye protection. It stands out among sports sunglasses for its wide view and lightweight feel.
The large, curved lens opens up your view upwards, downwards, and to the sides. On the bike, this means you can read the road and monitor your surroundings without turning your head. On the trail, it helps you spot roots and rocks ahead. The lens also shields you from debris, wind, and dust. Upper cut-outs improve airflow and help prevent fogging.
The semi-rimless frame keeps weight to a minimum, which is noticeable on long outings. CustomFIT arms are adjustable to fit your face shape. The non-slip nose and soft inserts inside the arms keep the sunglasses in place without catching hair, even when you sweat. The model is made in Europe and uses bio-based materials.
Choosing a Density also means choosing a lens. Each technology is designed for specific light conditions and uses.
Spectron lenses are made from lightweight, impact-resistant polycarbonate. Their fixed tint is category 3, ideal for very bright days (sea, mountains, sunny roads). Spectron HD 3 offers finer detail and relief thanks to improved contrast. A hydrophobic coating helps in rain or sweat.
Reactiv lenses are photochromic. Their tint darkens as light increases and lightens as it fades, in about fifteen seconds. One pair covers dawn starts, shaded woods, and full sun. The number indicates the category range: 0-3 for very clear starts, 1-3 for a slightly darker clear state. High Contrast versions boost contrast for better terrain reading. Light Amplifier versions, with warmer tones, are designed for changing or low light.
Polarised lenses filter out glare from water, wet roads, or snow. They provide extra visual comfort when the sun is low. They're a great choice for outings that mix road, lake, or river.
Designed for performance, the Density is also versatile. It suits both demanding training and more relaxed outings.
The panoramic view, lightness, and secure fit are ideal for long rides. If you want versatile Julbo cycling sunglasses, a Reactiv photochromic lens is great for rides through forests and open areas. Spectron HD 3 is perfect for clear, sunny roads.
On uneven terrain, the stable frame means you don't have to adjust your sunglasses. The low weight and lens ventilation help you stay focused on your effort.
At altitude, light changes quickly between woods, ridges, and snowfields. Reactiv lenses adapt without needing to change sunglasses. For snowy high mountains, check the filter category (see FAQ).
Four criteria make the choice easier: light conditions, lens type, style, and fit.
If you mostly go out in bright sun, Spectron 3 or Spectron HD 3 is enough. If your outings start early, end late, or cross shaded areas, Reactiv 0-3 or 1-3 is more comfortable. One pair is then enough for the whole day.
Photochromic adapts to light levels. Polarised reduces glare. If glare is your main issue (water, wet roads), choose polarised. If it's changing light, go for photochromic.
The range comes in black, grey, white, and purple, from subtle to bold. Black and grey go with everything. White and purple add character to your sports outfit. Lens colours (mirrored, warm or cool tints) complete the look.
The Density is unisex, with a wide fit for medium to large faces. Thanks to adjustable arms and a non-slip nose, the fit is easy to adjust. It should stay in place without pressure on the temples and not slip when you lower your head.
Julbo is a Jura brand, founded in the late 19th century to protect mountain dwellers' eyes. This heritage still shapes its products today.
Since 1888, the company has refined its lenses and frames for the toughest conditions. It produces technical sun lenses in its Jura lab, including prescription options.
Mountaineers, cyclists, runners: the brand equips outdoor sports where vision matters. The Density continues this spirit, with the protection and lightness athletes expect. To compare other models, see all our Julbo sunglasses.
A few simple steps will extend the life of your lenses and frame.
Rinse first with clean water to remove sand and dust, then wipe with a clean microfibre cloth. Avoid paper towels, clothing, and harsh products, which can scratch or damage coatings.
Store your sunglasses in their case, lenses facing up. Avoid leaving them on a hot dashboard or loose in a bag without protection.
Yes, in most cases. The thin, adjustable arms fit easily under helmet straps and vents. Try the combination before your first outing to check nothing presses on your temples. On ski slopes, where a Julbo ski goggle offers more protection from wind and cold, the Density is best for mild, sunny days.
For regular bright sun, category 3 is suitable. On glaciers, snowy high mountains, or in extreme conditions, category 4 is recommended as it blocks more light. For these outings, choose Julbo glacier sunglasses with side shields. Some Density versions have darker lenses: check the category on the product page.
Reactiv lenses respond to daylight, but windscreens block much of the light that triggers darkening. They often stay lighter behind glass. Category 4 lenses are not recommended for driving.
Yes, depending on the model. Julbo offers prescription sun lenses, available through partner opticians. Some models are also compatible with an optical clip that fits inside the frame.
