But what is a splitboard exactly?

A splitboard is a snowboard which can turn into skis. It comes in either two sections (the most widespread model) or three sections. This bit of kit is particularly in vogue with versatile skiers and snowboarders. When the splitboard is dismantled, it allows you to go back up the slopes like a cross-country skier. When reassembled, you can hurtle down the slopes again. When picking your splitboard (as with the snowboard), your body type (sex, weight and height) must be taken into account. The choice also depends on your style: freeride, freestyle or a bit of both? As for more technical considerations, you can think about your board’s shape and camber. For the most part, you’ll find two different shapes on the market, the directional board and the Twin Tip, and four cambers: traditional, flat, reverse and double camber.
