The Down Proof 1L brand’s Nikwax is a waterproofing treatment for down and feather clothes and equipment. Whether used as a soak-in treatment or in the washing machine, this product reduces the absorbency of the down and increases the water-repellency of the outer fabric.

use
For clothes
- Put the item in the washing machine and add Nikwax Down Proof [detergent] to the detergent compartment
- Select a warm cycle and start the machine
- You can also use Nikwax it manually
- When drying, and only if the care instructions allow it, spin-dry three times and tumble dry on a high heat setting until all clumps of down have disappeared
- Put one or two tennis balls in a pillowcase to help prevent the down from clumping during drying

For equipment
- For sleeping bags, immerse the item(s) in a basin or bathtub filled with lukewarm water
- Apply by hand, shake and leave to soak for 5 to 10 minutes
- Rinse with water, drain and gently squeeze the sleeping bag to remove excess water
- When drying, and only if the care instructions allow it, spin-dry three times and tumble dry on a high heat setting until all clumps of down have disappeared
- Put one or two tennis balls in a pillowcase to help prevent the down from clumping during drying
